Wiring doom

After extensive work done on my VW bay window there was still an elephant in the room – wiring loom. After 40+ years of patching and repurposing of various bits and pieces by previous owners, the cabling has deviated from original schaltpläne quite a lot. Not to mention that parts of insulation were badly burned in an engine bay fire sometime in the past. So I took the plunge and repaired all the wiring in the dashboard and in the engine bay, head and tail lights, replaced or cleaned all connectors and added new cable sleeving that is heat-resistant up to 500°C. It took me a while but finally the wiring is done and now closely follows ye olde schaltpläne.

Testing lights and dashboard switches after rewiring went smoothly but the biggest challenge remained – starting up the rebuilt engine with new electrics, fuel and air plumbing and most importantly newly painted engine shroud. Look at him go in the video…
